Violet Bood was born in Kerkovan, MN, on November 18, 1917, the daughter of Andrew and Ellen (Asplund) Bood. The family moved to Sheldon, ND, when Violet was two years old. She attended a one room country school called Corburn. At the age of 12, the family moved to rural Leonard, ND, where Violet attended Mattson Country School. Following her formal schooling, she worked as a nanny in the area, and also contracted to clean homes in Fargo.
When she was 21 years old, Violet moved to Osage, MN, which is where she met Irwin Breitbach. On November 10, 1945, Violet and Irwin were united in marriage in Detroit Lakes, MN. The couple lived in Port Angeles, WA, for 2 ½ years, later moving to Moorhead, MN, and eventually settling in Breckenridge. In 1949, they built their first home and filled it with fond memories fostered by the raising of their two children. With a strong confidence in her husband's abilities, Violet supported Irwin in starting Breitbach Construction, a reputable company he ran successfully for many years. Irwin passed away on October 20, 1995. She stayed in her home in until 1997, and then moved to Fargo to be closer to her son.
Violet was an active member of the VFW and Breckenridge Lutheran Church participating in Church Circle and Homemakers Club. She enjoyed hosting card parties and looked forward to outings with their camper, especially fishing on Swan Lake with the grandchildren. For many years, she enjoyed the camaraderie of the Senior Bowling League at Terrace Lanes in Wahpeton. She was blessed to have been able to travel all over the United States with Irwin. They spent 17 winters as snowbirds in Mesa, AZ, and 2 winters in Houston, TX. She loved spending time with her family, especially doting on the grandchildren.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Janet Ehlert of Houston, TX, and her son, Steve (Colleen) Breitbach of Fargo, ND; her 7 grandchildren, Jacquelyn Galloway, Jeff Ehlert, Jody Ehlert, Robin Price, Angie Garrison, Tyler Breitbach, and Tessa Breitbach; her 9 great-grandchildren, Alisha Galloway, Justin Kinzer, Briana Ehlert, Ivy Ehlert, Autumn Galloway, Kaylee Galloway, Lola Petersen, Indy Petersen, Arley Garrison, and Nash Irwin Price; her 3 great-great grandchildren, Aidan Daly, Avery Daly, and Gracie Rose. She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Ellen Bood; her husband, Irwin Breitbach; her 5 brothers, Harold, Vernon, Melford, Alvin, and Wendel Bood; and great-granddaughter, Eva Petersen.
