Stanley Robert Carlsrud, age 93, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton, ND, on Saturday, June 8, 2024. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2024, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Breckenridge. Rene Hasbargen will be officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, St. Paul, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge.

Stanley was born on July 30, 1930 at St. John’s Hospital, Fergus Falls, MN, to Ole and Myrtle (Hanson) Carlsrud. Shortly after he was born, the family moved into Rothsay, MN, where his dad worked at the elevator. In the early summer of 1936, they moved to Lawndale, MN, where his dad managed an elevator. He went to Lawndale school from 1936 until graduating from 8th grade in 1944. In 1945, the family went into farming and Stanley farmed with his father until 1951, when he entered the US Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was a radar operator tracking airplanes; and from October 1952 until May 1, 1954, he was stationed on an island off of Okinawa. He finished his time in the service at Selfridge Air Force Base, Lansing, MI, as a radar operator for SAC. He was discharged from the Air Forced on December 8, 1954. From 1954 until Sept 1964, he worked at various jobs, including Peter Schwietzer and Hanson Construction. On July 27, 1957, he married Marlyce Lennartz. They lived in Breckenridge ever since.

In September 1964, Stanley purchased and operated Breck Transfer until June 1979. From 1969 to 1975, he also worked as an alcoholic counselor for the Wilkin and Richland Counties. In 1979, he began operating Carlsrud Locksmith. His son, Dennis joined him in the business in 1984. Dennis now owns and operates Carlsrud Locksmith.

Stanley was a member of the Breckenridge Lutheran Church where he served on the church counsel for a few years, and was a member of the Wilkin County VFW. He was a caring gentle man, whose greatest pride and joy was his family. He spent many enjoyable, leisurely times relaxing and fishing with them. He believed that a good way to keep the family together was by fishing with them. His pleasant disposition was due to the fact that he was always thankful for his blessings and his love of a good joke; especially, Norwegian jokes.

He is survived by wife, Marlyce; children, Ordean Carlsrud, of Albuquerque, NM, Dennis Carlsrud, of Breckenridge, Lisa (fiancé, Joseph Kneser) Rugenstein of Wahpeton, ND, Nancy (Kenny) Geesey, Hankinson, ND, Linda (Kirk) Loewen, Hankinson, Sherry (Stacy Atkinson) Carlsrud, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Ross (Hallie) Geesey, of Wahpeton, ND, Katelyn (Nathan) Heisler, of Velva, ND, Kalvin Loewen, of Grand Forks, ND, and Kirstan Loewen of Hankinson; and sister, DeLane Hendricksen.

Preceding Stanley in death were his parents, Ole and Mrtyle Carlsrud; infant daughter, Janeen Carlsrud; and brother-in-law, Ronald Hendricksen.
