Shirley’s academic journey began with her graduation from Breckenridge High School in 1958. She pursued higher education at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Arts and Biology. Her love for knowledge led her to Iowa State University, where she obtained her Doctorate in Mycology and Philosophy in 1970. Though her career aspirations were momentarily set aside to care for her ailing mother, Shirley remained steadfast in her dedication to education, teaching part-time at Breckenridge Public Schools. There, she inspired countless young minds, sharing with them the same enthusiasm for learning that had shaped her own life.

Beyond the classroom, Shirley was an integral part of her church community. Her beautiful voice lifted the spirits of many during Sunday services, a gift she shared humbly and generously. Her life was not only marked by her professional accomplishments but also by the depth of her love for her family. She cared for her mother with grace and selflessness, embodying the gentle spirit and quiet strength that endeared her to all who knew her.

Shirley’s talents extended far beyond academics. In high school, she was recognized for her excellence in speech and debate, and she was a gifted pianist, whose love for music filled the hearts of those around her. Her passion for education, music, and service left an indelible mark on her community, and she touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and generosity.

Among the many blessings in her life, Shirley treasured her dear friend, Mary Ann Conrad. Their friendship was a source of great joy and comfort, and it held a special place in the hearts of Shirley and her family.

Shirley is survived by her brother, Dennis (Rita) Nordahl, and niece, Alesia Nordahl. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Sr., and Emma Nordahl; and brother, George Nordahl, Jr.
