Rose Mary Selby, age 83, of Kent, MN, passed away at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND, on Friday, November 18, 2022. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 28, 2022, with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge. Rene Hasbargen will be officiating the service. Burial will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home.
Rose was born on March 25, 1939, to Benjamin and Hilda (Platt) Hermeling. She grew up on the family farm and after completing her formal education, she began working as a dental assistant. In 1960, Rose was married to Russell Selby at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Breckenridge. They continued to live on the family farm and raised their two children, Dale and Debbie. Throughout the years, she worked at 3M Imation and later, enjoyed selling Avon.
Rose had a deep affection for all animals and had many running through the house. Convertibles, shopping trips, and bonfires filled her soul and she had an impressive collection of salt and pepper shakers. Rose was an avid reader, when she did put the books down, she loved to play online games including bingo and casino imitation games. Many memories and friends were made over the years at the Fort Saloon in Abercrombie, ND, that Rose frequently visited. Above all, her pride and joy were always her children and grandchildren; she loved staying up late playing the Mexican train game with them. Her favorite trips with family and friends took her to Omaha, NE, breaking the monotony of her frequent trips through Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Rose will always be remembered by the spark of joy and the glow she had when around her family.
Those left to cherish Rose’s memory are her children, Dale (Lori Anderson) Selby and Debbie (Art) Reyes; grandchildren, RaKay Reyes, Devon Reyes, Cameron (Lindsey) Reyes, Korina (Jose Tejeda) Reyes, Desi Reyes, and Dale Selby, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Vincent, Diego, and Aurora; siblings, Tony Hermeling and Margaret Arneson.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Russell Selby; sister and brother-in-law, Helen (Charlie) Stender; and many other loving family members.
