After graduating from Wahpeton High School in 1964, Roe continued his education at NDSSS, now known as NDSCS, pursing an Accounting and Business degree. In 1965, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a radioman on the U.S.S. St. Paul and later the U.S.S. Oklahoma during two tours in the Vietnam War. Roe's service came to a proud close in 1969 when he was honorably discharged.
Roe married Carol (Johnson) Balk in 1965 and to this union 4 daughters were born.
In 1969, he embarked on a remarkable journey as a lifelong trucker, founding Roe Walker & Daughters. This venture not only sustained his family but also fostered enduring friendships throughout the trucking community. His passion for the open road was matched only by his commitment to his business, occasionally lending a hand in his brother's truck shop to repair semis.
Roe married Thelma Herrman in 1992.
In his spare time, Roe continued trucking for Conzemius Oil, Valley Farm Tile, TLP Trucking, and until his health no longer allowed him, Klein Farms of Breckenridge, MN. He enjoyed classic cars, wintering in Texas, gardening, smoking meats and a Johnny Walker Blue on the rocks.
Roe was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the American Legion, VFW, and The Uninviteds Car Club.
His final project this year was getting his canary yellow 1955 Ford pick-up running again with his grandson, Hayden.
Roe is survived by his wife, Thelma; his children, Heather (Chris) Willmott; Kelly Walker; McKenzie (Mitch) Conzemius; and Karensa (Jeremy) Tischer; his grandchildren, Brittany (Nathan) Summerville & their family, Colt (Alyssa) Budke & their family, Carter and Chloe Conzemius, Hayden and Sydney Tischer; siblings, Paul “Buck” (Ginny) Walker, Audrey (Gene) Pinkney, and his nieces and nephews.
