Pauline Neppl was born in Kent, MN, on February 16, 1926, one of fourteen children born to Andrew and Rose (Peschel) Neppl. She attended school in Kent. On September 4, 1947, Pauline was united in marriage to Tyler Gunderson, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kent. The couple farmed east of Kent until 1950, at which time, they and another couple took over the operation of Hart's Café in Breckenridge. They were blessed with two boys, Gordon and Gerald "Ray". As they raised their boys, Pauline and Tyler moved to McCauleyville, then to a farm east of Kent. From 1962 to 1965, they uprooted the family and moved to California. When they returned to Minnesota, they along with Fran and Lee Underberg, operated Kent Café. Over the next 27 years, the couple lived in Barnesville and then Fergus Falls where Pauline worked at the Broen Home. Tyler passed away in 1999, and Pauline relocated back to Breckenridge in 2007, moving into assisted living at Twin Town Villa. In September of 2012, she moved into St. Francis Nursing Home.
Pauline loved to cook and the Christmas tradition of baking molasses and sugar cookies were among her favorite. Her unperturbed character was admirable and she took the challenges of life head on with a laid-back attitude. Her Catholic tradition was important to her. She loved to crochet, especially afghans and loved to spend time with her family.
Pauline is survived by her granddaughters, Heidi Gunderson of Minneapolis, MN and Jessica Gunderson of Fergus Falls, MN; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Rose; her husband, Tyler; her sons, Gordon and Ray; and her thirteen siblings.
