Oliver was born January 11, 1928, to Arne and Caroline (Dahl) Trageton, in Northwood, ND. He attended school in Northwood, graduating from high school in 1947. Following graduation, he attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, and then farmed with his brother. He was drafted into the US Army in October of 1950 and was stationed in Indiana and then Germany. Upon his return from the military in 1952, Oliver attended the University Of North Dakota in Grand Forks, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1958. He received his Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Dakota in 1963. He taught in the Sheyenne Public School in Sheyenne, ND from 1961 to 1965. He was united in marriage to Susan Foley, on December 28, 1965, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural DeLamere, ND. The couple moved to Breckenridge where Oliver taught high school social studies from 1965 to 1993. He was active in the Breckenridge Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and the intern committee for several years. He also taught confirmation class and faithfully attended men's bible study.
Oliver loved to read and going out for coffee with his 'coffee buddies'. He appreciated antique cars and took painstaking measures in restoring them; taking in the occasional Sunday drive or parade. As a husband, Sue was his crowning glory and his devotion to her was immeasurable. As a father and grandfather, he viewed his daughter and grandchildren, through a faultless lens of love, and treasured every moment with them.
Oliver is survived by his daughter, Sara (Randy) Gerdon; his grandchildren, Nick, Jacob, Matt, and Addison. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arne and Caroline; his wife, Susan; his brothers, Palmer, in infancy, and Howard; his sisters, Lila, Ruth, Adeline, and Cora.
