Mavis Neitzel

February 17, 1930 — October 29, 2015

Mavis S. Neitzel, 85, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2015, at CHI St. Francis Health Care Campus in Breckenridge, MN. The visitation will be at United Church of Christ Congregational Church in Wahpeton, ND, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, November 2, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Ken Adams will be officiating. The interment will be a t Pleasant View Cemetery in Lidgerwood, ND, at 2:00 p.m.
Mavis Shirley Kuehn was born on February 17, 1930, to Otto and Frances (Martin) Kuehn on a farm near Lidgerwood, ND. She attended a country grade school and graduated from Lidgerwood High School in 1947. Following graduation, Mavis attended Valley City State Teachers College and taught in several rural schools in the area. On July 17, 1952, Mavis was united in marriage to Donald Neitzel. The couple moved to Richland, WA, where she was employed at Hanford Atomic Works. After several years, they moved to West Fargo, ND, and she worked as a secretary at various locations, and then at the West Fargo Public Library, where she worked until her retirement. Her husband, Donald, passed away on June 29, 1981. She continued to live in West Fargo until 2011, at which time she moved to Wahpeton.
Mavis was an avid reader and was always well-informed on the national and political news of the day. It proved to be quite a challenge to play Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble with her.
Mavis is survived by her sisters, Marjorie Berg of Wahpeton, and Jeannie (Richard) Link of Breckenridge; her nieces and nephews, Scott (Carol) Funfar of Fargo, ND, Renee Simonson of Minneapolis, MN, Glen A. Kuehn of Devils Lake, ND, Cindy Damario of Fairbanks, AK, Suzanne (Donald) Hurlbut of Fargo, Lori (Mike) Laddusaw of Barney, ND Jeff (Marion) Kuehn of Fargo, Georgia (Vance) Vosberg of Wyndmere, ND, and Carmen Link of Mesa, AZ; she was a special aunt to her great-nephews, Michael and Cody Link.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Frances; her husband, Donald; her sisters, Fern Kuehn and Dayle Funfar; her brother, Glen Kuehn; and her nephew, Terry Link.
