Mary Beth Gruenberg, 61, of Barnesville, MN, passed away in her home on Thursday, March 19, 2015. There will be a visitation from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday March 27, at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, MN. The visitation will continue at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, on Saturday, March 28, followed by the funeral at 11:00. Pastor Mark Manning is officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Breckenridge.
Mary was born in Fargo, ND, on April 10, 1953, to Robert and Audrey (Olson) Gruenberg. She began her education in Wolverton, MN, and then continued at Breckenridge High School, graduating in 1971. She spent much of her time helping on the farm with her parents. She enjoyed the many aspects of the operation of a farm but especially loved harvest time. She loved to help in the kitchen with canning and cooking meals together. Her passion for cooking and baking led her to work at various restaurants, and even tried her hand at cake decorating. But in 1987, she discovered her true calling, and that was to become a nurse. She enrolled in the 2 year nursing program at NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND, and graduated May 25, 1989, as an LPN. Upon graduation, she went on to work at Dakota Hospital and Sanford Health in Fargo, ND, Golden Living Community Center in Moorhead, MN, and most recently Clay-Co Care Center in Barnesville.
As a night nurse, Mary loved the care she could provide to her patients and the residents with whom she was privileged to work. She had a marvelous singing voice, and enjoyed singing for others. She had a soft spot in her heart for the pets she had over the years. She treasured the time she spent with her friends and family, particularly her nieces and nephews who meant the world to her.
Mary is survived by her 2 sisters, Sharon (Phil) Koppelman of Breckenridge, MN and their children, Carrie (Jon) O'Reilly of Oronoco, MN and Carl (Kalli) Koppelman of Albert Lea, MN; Susan (Ron) Storbakken of Staples, MN, and their children, Eric (Trudi) Storbakken of Brainerd, MN, Heidi (Bret) Johnson of Duluth, MN, Leif (Kristy) Storbakken of Princeton, MN, and Inga (Patrick) Conway of Austin, TX; 18 great-nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Audrey Gruenberg.
