Kate Hiedeman, age 75, of Breckenridge, MN died on October 22, 2016, at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND. There will be a visitation held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Breckenridge, MN, followed by the funeral service at 11:00. The Rev. Mark Gronseth will be officiating. Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge is assisting the family.
Kathleen Mae Korinek was born to Alfred and Lorraine (Leshovsky) Korinek on May 26, 1941 in Breckenridge. Kate attended school through the eighth grade in Doran, MN, and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1959. From 1959 to 1961 she attended North Dakota State School of Science, graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse (with honors) in 1961.
Kate worked part time on the OB floor and in the Nursery at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge until 1976, when she took a leave of absence to help care for her dad. From 1981 to 1997, Kate worked summers in the infant room with the Breckenridge Migrant Program. From 1986 to 2005 she was an Infant Care Giver at St. John's Child Care Center in Wahpeton, ND. During this time, she earned her Child Development Associate Degree from Washington, D.C.
Kate married Norman Harold Hiedeman on September 22, 1962 at United Methodist Church in Breckenridge. They made their home in Breckenridge, where they raised their three children, Kim Michelle, Kevin Michael, and Kari Marie. Kate was an active member of the Breckenridge United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Chapter B P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the Breckenridge Study Club. Kate always held offices in these organizations.
She is survived by her husband, Norman Hiedeman, Breckenridge; her three children: Kim Fuder (Kirk Swanson), Bismarck, ND, Kevin (Ann) Hiedeman, Breckenridge, MN, and Kari (Brian) Johnston, Warroad, MN; her nine grandchildren: Nathan and Jacob Fuder, Noelle (Jim) Green, Erik, Jack, and Tommy Hiedeman, and Hannah, Katie, and Marlie Johnston; and her great-granddaughter, Molly Green; her aunt, Phyllis Leshovsky; her sister-in-law, Judy Korinek; her nephew, LeRoy Korinek and his daughter, Cortney; her niece, LaRae (Pastor David) Kuhfal and their son, Bode; her brother-in-law, Ray (Janice) Hiedeman; her nephew, Darrell (Nicki) Hiedeman and their daughters, Jordan and Lauren.
Kate was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred (1980) and Lorraine (2015) Korinek; her brother, Tom Korinek (2014); her mother and father-in-law, Mae and Harold Hiedeman; her brother-in-law, Neil Hiedeman; and her nephew, Scott Hiedeman.
In lieu of flowers, Kate's family requests that memorials be directed to Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo.
