John Petermann, 68 of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Breckenridge, MN passed away on February 12, 2011 at St. Mary's Regional Hospital in Detroit Lakes. The funeral is Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm. at St. Gall's Catholic Church, Tintah, MN with father Arlie Sowada officiating. The visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday from 1 pm to 2 pm at St. Gall's Catholic Church. Interment will be on a later date at St. Gall's Catholic Cemetery, Tintah, MN. Pallbearers are David Stephani, Sonny Hendricks, Cory Wichael, Jim Wichael, Henry Petermann, and David Petermann
John was born April 16th, 1942 in Wheaton, MN, to Henry and Louise (Thoennes) Petermann. He was raised in Tintah, MN where he attended school. He married Dorothy Johnson on June 8th, 1963 at St. Gall's Catholic Church in Tintah.
John began his farming career with Max Daniels and later Bob Ray. He worked and farmed with Leo and Richard Yaggie for 23 years. John owned and operated Petermann Pumping in Fergus Falls for six years. He returned to the farming industry that he loved so much and went to work for Kevin Yaggie in Brooks, MN. Due to ill health in 1998, John retired from farming and returned to Breckenridge. In 2007, John and Dorothy moved to Detroit Lakes to be closer to their son Patrick and his family.
John enjoyed hunting, spending time with family and neighbors and playing with his grandchildren. John and Dorothy were long time members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge.
John is survived by his wife Dorothy Petermann of Detroit Lakes, MN; his son Patrick (Wendy) Petermann of Detroit Lakes, MN; his daughters Louise (Joe) Alfaro, Dallas, TX and; Melissa (David) Stephani of Plymouth, MN. His grandchildren Sarah and Amber Petermann; Evan and Ella Stephani; his siblings Mary (Duane) Wellnitz of Elbow Lake, MN; Loretta (Ken) Schmaltz of Fergus Falls, MN; Herbert (Beverly) Petermann of Wahpeton, ND; James Petermann of Breckenridge, MN; Patricia (Glen) Kruize of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Leon (Vickie) Petermann of Sacramento, CA; Francis (Paul) Jennen of Elbow Lake, MN; Robert (Cheryl) Petermann of Elk River, MN; David (Joyce) Petermann of Sioux Falls, SD; Maureen (James) Wichael of Wahpeton, ND; Henry (Marcia) Petermann of Tintah, MN; his sister-in-law Sharon Petermann of Breckenridge, MN; his brother-in-law Lawrence Lehman of Tintah, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Louise; his sisters Ramona, Barbara and Theresa; his brother Stanley; his niece Lori; his nephews Frankie III, Glen Jr. and Adam.
