Jesse Lankow

Jesse Lankow, 83, of Campbell, MN, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Fargo, ND. There will be a visitation on Monday, March 23, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00, at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, MN.
Jesse was born on February 13, 1932, to Richard and Gertrude (Witt) Lankow, in Fergus Falls, MN. He began his education at a country school near Foxhome, MN, then continued his schooling in Campbell, graduating in 1950. One of the defining moments of Jesse's young life, was the winter he had witnessed a farm tractor go over a bridge near Fergus Falls, MN. He jumped into the freezing cold water to pull the driver of the tractor to safety. In 1952, he enlisted in the United States Army; stationed at Fort Carson, CO, with the 8th Division. After being released from active duty in 1954, Jesse joined the Army Reserve for 8 years, under the Military Training & Service Act. Upon his return from military service, Jesse farmed for several years near Foxhome.
On June 26, 1963, Jesse was united in marriage to Helen Lund in Colorado Springs, CO. They made their home in Campbell where he began his own service business, Jesse's Auto Body and Wrecker Service. During this time he was also the Wilkin County Deputy Sheriff and eventually became the Chief of Police in Campbell. On July 22, 1992, Jesse married Doretta Gorder, in Sisseton, SD. The couple resided in Campbell. Following his retirement from law enforcement, Jesse worked as a security guard for some of the local manufacturing companies. He continued to enjoy "handyman" jobs, accomplishing such things as home renovations and construction projects. Ranked among some of his favorite things to do, was "shooting the breeze" with friends and spending time with family.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Doretta of Campbell, MN; his children, Kelly Lankow of Moorhead, MN, Korey (Gail) Lankow of Sahuarita, AZ; Pam (Gary) Schuler of Moorhead, MN; Michael (Connie Metcalf) Broadland of Breckenridge, MN; B.J. Gorder of Wahpeton, ND; Hal (Kamilla) Gorder of Little Falls, MN; his grandchildren, Jace, Zach, and Josh Lankow, Ariane (Jeremy Jenson) Getz, Dean Broadland, Todd (Jeannine) Schuler, Jenny (Dane) Miller, and Jennifer (Chris) Hanna.
Jesse is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Gertrude, his wife, Helen Lund Lankow; his sister, Florence Nelson; and his stepson, Kim Broadland.
