James Wulfekuhle

James Wulfekuhle, 73, of rural Abercrombie , ND , died June 18, 2008 at his home near Abercrombie .

His funeral will be held on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kent , MN . Fr. Kenneth Popp will officiate.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge , MN . Visitation will resume on Monday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 -10:00 AM.

Interment will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery , Kent .

His 9 grandchildren: Jeremy and Jason Umlauf; Lacy and Tyler Wulfekuhle; Emily, Kariann, and Jacob Sahl; Zachary and Nicholas Wulfekuhle; His brothers and sisters: Leo (Alice) Kuhle, Leesburg, FL; Virginia Miller, Chetek, WI; Donna Spellerberg, Lidgerwood, ND; Karey (Allen) Mackey, Waverly, KY; Genevieve (Will) Tomky, Lamar, NE; Lovie (Bruce) Brough, St. Paul, MN; Charles (Rose) Wulfekuhle, Fergus Falls, MN; Joyce (Don) Swendsrud, Monticello, MN; His sisters-in-law: Bette Keller, Glenwood, MN; and Frances (Robert) Hollenbeck, Minneapolis, MN; His brother-in-law: Joe Keller, Glenwood, MN; His special friend: Linda Grandalen, Fargo, ND; Many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by: His parents: Henry and Viola Wulfekuhle; His wife: Emily; His daughter: Karey; and two siblings in infancy

James Anthony Wulfekuhle was born October 3, 1934 in Hazleton , Iowa , the son of Henry and Viola (Schemmel) Wulfekuhle. As a child he moved with his family to a farm north of Breckenridge , MN , where he attended country school in Connelly Township and started working on the farm at a young age. Later the family moved to a farm near Wendell , MN . Jim entered the U. S. Army in November, 1953 and served until November, 1955, when he was honorably discharged.

On July 21, 1958 Jim married Emily Keller at Villard , MN . The couple lived on a farm near Wendell and later moved to a farm near Breckenridge. In January 1969, Jim and his family moved to a farm south of Abercrombie , ND . Emily preceded Jim in death on October 24, 1998. Jim continued living on the home farm and farming until the time of his death.

Jim was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kent , MN where he had served on the Board of Directors and was active with the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was also a member of the Abercrombie American Legion Club, the Minn-Dak Farmer’s Co-op Trucking Committee, and a former member of the Abercrombie Township Board.

Jim enjoyed dancing and square dancing with the Fort Abercrombie Square Dancing Club. He also liked gardening, raising livestock, and horseback trail riding. Jim especially loved farming and having his family working with him in the field, attending family reunions and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
