James Brian Blaufuss, 73, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015, at CHI St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge. There will be a visitation from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, with a prayer service at 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, April 1, at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 PM, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge. Father Joseph Backowski is the Celebrant. The interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Breckenridge.
Jim was born on February 6, 1942, in Breckenridge, MN, one of five children born to Eugene and Helene (Keating) Blaufuss. His education began at St. Mary's Catholic School in Breckenridge, a tradition that proudly continued with his children and grandchildren. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1960. Following high school, Jim joined his father on the family farm, which eventually became a fourth generation family owned business. Through hard work and foresight, he blazed the trail in changing from a livestock farm to a sugar producing farm.
On August 11, 1962, Jim was united in marriage to Jackie Nelson, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls, MN. Together they raised their four children instilling in them timeless values such as respect, "the golden rule", and generosity. As a man of faith and action, Jim was very involved with St. Mary's Catholic Church and School. He readily roasted a hog for the annual Fall Festival, and charitably gave of his time and resources for other fund raising events. He believed in second chances and often gave life-changing assistance to those needing a hand. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends, especially birthday celebrations. Jim looked forward to attending his grandchildren's events and savored a special bond with each of them.
Jim's legacy lives on through his wife of 52 years, Jackie; his son, Mark (Peggy) Blaufuss of Breckenridge, and their children, Jordan, Turner, and Nate; his daughters, Kathy (Keith) Kutter of Breckenridge, and their children, Bryan (Amanda) Kutter, Ryan (fiancé Whitney West) Petersen, and Dylan Kutter; Christie (Lars) Bergmann of Breckenridge and their children, Chloe and Chelsea; his great-grandchildren, Avery and Madison Kutter; his siblings, Larry (Patsy) Blaufuss of Madelia, MN, John (Deb) Blaufuss of Breckenridge, Carol (Mike) Poppel of Breckenridge, and Bob (Donna) Blaufuss of Maplewood, MN; his brothers-in-law, Don (Val)Nelson of Fergus Falls, MN and Tom Nelson of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Helene and his son, Michael.
