Erma Wallace, 68, of Campbell, MN, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015, lovingly surrounded by her family, at the Pioneer Home in Fergus Falls, MN. The visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00, on Wednesday, May 13, at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, MN. The visitation will continue on Thursday, May 14, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at St. Gall's Catholic Church in Tintah, MN, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00. Father Mike Kellogg will be the Celebrant. The interment will be at St. Gall's Catholic Cemetery in Tintah.
Erma was born on August 6, 1946, in Miltona, MN, the only child of Paul and Helen (Henning) Freier. The family made their home in Parkers Prairie, MN, where Erma attended school and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1964. On August 28, 1965, she was united in marriage to Jerry Wallace, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Henning, MN. Due to Jerry's employment on the I94 construction project, Erma and Jerry moved around quite a bit before settling in Campbell in February of 1973.
Erma used her love of baking and her cooking skills in her job as the cook at the Senior Citizens Center in Campbell, a job she was blessed to have for 25 years. During that time, she was more than a person who prepared the meals; she was an encouraging friend and mentor. Following her retirement, she transitioned into volunteering as a caregiver and senior companion where she selflessly gave without expectation of a return. Erma also served on the board for the Senior Citizens Center in Breckenridge. In her spare time, she enjoyed collecting dolls and ceramic ducks. She loved to paint on canvas and go fishing with Jerry and the family. Erma made many treasured friends as a garden club member and going to polka parties. She looked forward to spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Erma is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jerry; her 3 children, Alan (fiancée, Paula Gilliam) Wallace of Breckenridge, MN, Brenda (David) Bangs of Brookings, SD, and Jerry (Jessica) Wallace, Jr. of Aberdeen, SD; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Erma is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helen Freier.
