Earl "Clare" Olson was born March 19, 1915 at Cooperstown, ND, the son of Ludwig and Inga (Haugen) Olson. He grew up and attended school in Cooperstown, graduating in 1933, and furthered his education studying science at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, and graduated from there in 1938. On August 25, 1939, Clare was married to Margaret Kolberg in Hannaford, ND. The couple made their home in St. Clair, MN, where Clare taught Biology for two years and Juanita, ND for one year. He then began his postal service career working in the Post Office in Cooperstown.

Clare entered the U. S. Army on April 28, 1944 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. While he was in the Army, Clare served as a postal clerk. He was honorably discharged on March 4, 1946. Upon returning to Cooperstown, he continued working at the Post Office until 1950.

He later worked in Fargo, ND, where he became a supervisor, and in June, 1975, retired from the U. S. Postal Service. Clare and Margaret made their home on Little McDonald Lake near Perham, MN. They lived there until 1984, and then moved to Fargo and Dilworth, MN until May, 1996. During those years they enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, AZ. They moved to Breckenridge, MN in 1996 and made their home at the York Manor. Margaret preceded him in death on September 8, 2000.

Clare was a member of the American Legion, Gilbert C. Grafton Post; a former Member of the Lions Club; and current member of Breckenridge Lutheran Church. When Margaret was living they enjoyed dancing. He also received enjoyment from golfing, spectator sports, following the Yankees, and NDSU Bison. As of late he enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Clare always enjoyed spending time at the lake and spending time with his family.

Memorials are preferred to the Pioneer Senior Cottage in Breckenridge, where Clare made his home the past two years.
