E. A. "Curly" Pedersen, Wahpeton, ND, formerly of rural Wolverton, MN, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
His funeral will be Wednesday, February 7, at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Kent, MN, with Fr. Kenneth Popp officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 6, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN
There will also be visitation Wednesday morning from 9:00 until 10:00 at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Kent, MN with military rites by the Wilkin County Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Bill Olson, Mark Nissley, Corey Muehlberg, Jim Coyne, Dan Deal and Tom Deal
Curly is survived by: His wife, Elsie Pedersen, Wahpeton, ND; His 5 children: James (Dianne) Pedersen, Camarillo, CA; Janet (Ronald) Olson, Dickinson, ND; Judy (Jim) Lorenz, Billings, MT; Joyce (Doug) Muehlberg, Greenfield, MA; Jackie Ron) Lorenz, Houston, TX; 13 Grandchildren; 11 Great-grandchildren; His brother: Herb (Carmen) Gehlhaar, Milwaukee, WI; Many nieces and nephews.

Erling Arnold "Curly" Pedersen was born in Saint Ansgar, Iowa, the son of Nils and Petra (Lunde) Pedersen. As a child he moved with his family to Maddock, ND, where he graduated from high school. He then furthered his education for two years at North Dakota Agricultural College (now NDSU) in Fargo, ND. Curly was united in marriage to Elsie Hulne at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kent, MN on July 22, 1941.
Curly entered the U. S. Army on June 13, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He served in WWII in Company B 88th Infantry and graduated in the Heavy Weapons Division as a Machine Gunner. Curly was discharged September 25, 1943 at Fort George Meade, Maryland. He then returned home and began farming in Mitchell Township, Wilkin County, where he and Elsie made their home and raised their 5 children. He also did bookkeeping, made signs and did carpenter work and painting for over 35 years while farming.
Curly was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kent, MN. He was also a member of the Wahpeton Eagle's Club, the Wilkin County Sheriff's Association, and Life Member of the American Legion Amvets of Wahpeton, ND. Curly was active with Red River Telephone Association in Abercrombie, serving 33 years as a director; 30 years as secretary. He served for 18 years as Mitchell Township Assessor and 18 years on the Lone Star School Board of District 20 as their clerk. He served 11 years with the Abercrombie Credit Union on the Loan Committee and Director for 3 years as head of all rural schools in Wilkin County. Curly also served with Wilkin County ASCS for 21 years; 12 years as a grain checker and 9 years on the county committee as chairman, vice chairman and regular member.
Curly and Elsie loved to go dancing together and danced with all the big bands from New York to Billings. He enjoyed woodworking and tending to his large vegetable gardens and enjoyed canning and giving away the fruits of his labor to his neighbors and many friends.
His greatest love was spending time and visiting with his friends and especially his family.
