Doris Wilson Reese, 86, of Wyndmere, ND, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015, at St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton, ND. The visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 PM on Thursday, October 8 at Wyndmere United Methodist Church, Wyndmere, ND followed by the funeral service at 1:30 PM with Pastor Michael Ward officiating. The interment will be at Elk Creek Cemetery in Wyndmere. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Elk Creek Cemetery, Wyndmere, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN.
Doris Wilson was born in Sargent County near Delamere, ND, on September 14, 1929, one of ten children born to George and Grace (Poulter) Wilson. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Delamere. She met the love of her life, William Reese, at a barn dance in McLeod, ND. They were united in marriage at the Foss United Methodist Church, in Wahpeton, ND, on September 14, 1947. They lived in Wyndmere where they raised their four children. Doris was employed as a clerk at Carver's Red Owl in Wyndmere for 11 years followed by 20 years of employment at Anderson Service and Café, from 1974 until her retirement in 1995.
Doris loved to bake.. Some of the family favorites were her donuts and uniquely delicious green tomato pie. Doris was a devoted wife and mother and loved being a grandma and great-grandma. She was a whiz at crossword and jigsaw puzzles and filled many hours reading her favorite novels. Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wyndmere.
Doris will be missed by her husband of 68 years, Bill; her children, Cindy (Steve) Strege of Fargo, ND, Bill Reese, Jr. of Wyndmere, and Debbie (Marty) Boyer of Wahpeton; her daughter-in-law, Diane Reese of West Fargo, ND; her seven grandchildren, Marty (Marnee) Strege, Michelle (Glenn) Suedel, Jake (Angie) Reese, Josh (Tiffany) Reese, Jesse Reese, Tina (Dustin) Stredwick, and Lisa (Mike) Butkiewicz; her six great-grandchildren, Emma, Violet, Jaden, Taylor, Ryder, and Lacsey; her sister, Betty Oscarson, Moorhead, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, George and Grace; her son, Dave; her four brothers, John, George "Bud", Howard, Jess; and four of her sisters, Rose, Pearl, Helen, and Jean.
