Donald L. Halvorson (April 14, 1947 – March 16, 2016) Pennsauken, NJ, formerly of Kent, MN, died on March 16, 2016 from a sudden illness.
Don was born to Clarence & Marcella Halvorson on April 14, 1947, at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, MN. He attended grade school in Kent, MN and graduated from Breckenridge High School. Following high school he was drafted into the military. He joined the Army and fought for our country in the Vietnam War earning a National Defense Service Medal, two Overseas Bars, Vietnam Service Medal, two Expert Marksman Bronze Stars (Rifle M-14), and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After the military he lived in the Twin Cities, then Oklahoma, and finally residing in New Jersey for the last 30+ years of his life. During this time he was a skilled mechanic and machinist. He retired a couple years ago and in his free time he loved to read, do crossword puzzles, cryptograms and have in-depth conversations with family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Marcella Halvorson, Horace, ND; his son, William Halvorson, Cold Spring, MN; daughter, Maria Palacios, and two grandchildren, Petra and Robert, Newport, ME. His brothers, Roger Halvorson, Fargo, ND; Duane (Sandy) Halvorson, Moorhead, MN; two sisters, Bonnie Evenson, Baker, MN, and Beverly (Lee) Peters, Horace, ND; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, along with many close and dear friends in New Jersey. Don was preceded in death by his father, Clarence.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
