Dolores Dohman

April 16, 1924 — November 6, 2017

Dolores was born on April 16, 1924, in Minneapolis, MN, one of five children born to Joseph and Dora (Larson) Leinen. When she was very young, the family moved to a farm near Doran, MN. She attended elementary school in Doran and graduated from Breckenridge Senior High School in 1942. Following high school, Dolores attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND and received an Associate’s Degree in business. She accepted a position as the Secretary/Receptionist for Wilkin County Agricultural Agent in Breckenridge. At this time, the United States was fully engaged in World War II and most available men had enlisted in the military. This left a void for the farmers in the area, so it was part of Dolores’ job to organize volunteer groups to help the farmers during planting and harvest. She was an active participant in these groups and thought it was great way to help out in a time of need and benefit from the exercise and comradery.

On June 20, 1945, Dolores was united in marriage to Charles Dohman, at the First Baptist Church in Campbell, MN. They were blessed with a son, Terry, and made their home on a farm west of Campbell. Dolores served on the Wilkin County Nursing Board, the Lakeland Mental Health Board in Fergus Falls, MN, and was the first woman to serve on the Campbell School Board. She was a 4-H leader and faithfully served for many years in the First Baptist Church (which later became the Faith Community Church). She was also active in the Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary.

Dolores and Chuck spent 62 years on the family farm and enjoyed many winter vacations in California and Arizona. She enjoyed doing puzzles and was an avid reader. In their younger years, she and Chuck loved to square dance. They made many special memories with family and friends at their home on Ottertail Lake. Terry eventually took over the family farm and in 2007, Dolores and Chuck moved into Breckenridge. Chuck passed away in 2012.

Dolores is survived by her son, Terry (Gloria) Dohman of Wahpeton, ND; her grandson, Robb (Beth) Dohman of Wahpeton and her granddaughter, Kristin (Dixon) Kuglin of Minneapolis, MN; four great-grandchildren, Julia and Liam Dohman, and Emerson and Addison Kuglin; her sister, Constance (Teddy) Reber of Havre, MT; two brothers, Eugene “Bud” (Doris) Leinen of Breckenridge; and Roland (Rita) Leinen of Campbell; and sister-in-law, Laura Leinen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Dora Leinen; her husband, Chuck; and her brother, Russel Leinen.
