Deborah Jane (Skog) Riveland, 72, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away, surrounded by her loving family, at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge, MN, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2025, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2025, with a visitation beginning one hour prior to the service, at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Wahpeton, ND. Burial will be held at a later date at Riverside Cemetery, Wahpeton, ND. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home. Floral arrangements have been entrusted to Alsaker Floral in Rosholt, SD. 

Deborah was born to Dwayne and Joan Skog at the Tekawitha Hospital in Sisseton, SD, on March 23, 1952. I grew up on the family farm north of New Effington. I attended Lien Township p #4 for my first two years of school and then transferred to New Effington. I graduated as salutatorian of my class in 1970. I started Radiology school at St. Francis Hospital in July of that year graduating in July of 1972. I worked at Rolla ND hospital for one year and then returned to St. Francis.

Daryl Edward Riddle was born along with his twin brother to Ruth Ellis and Benjamin P. Riddle at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was 3 when his mother died and he was placed in the Children’s Home at Sioux Falls. He was adopted along with his sister and twin brother in 1957 by Irving and Clara Riveland and his name was changed to Lynn Clare. He attended Hart Township #4 for one year and then transferred to New Effington for two years. He graduated from St Cloud Technical High School in 1970. He attended college at Lea College in Albert Lea, MN, for one and year and graduated from Mankato State with an Industrial Technical Studies Teaching degree. He taught at Hubbard, IA, for two years.

We were married March 22, 1975 at Walla Lutheran Church rural New Effington. We lived in Iowa for one year when Lynn took a teaching job at Rosholt, SD. Michael was born at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, IA, on June 4, 1976. We moved to Rosholt in July of that year. Justin was born December 20, 1979 and Joey was born on February 7, 1983. We moved to Breckenridge in November on 1980. I started working at the hospital part-time and Lynn worked at Wahpeton Canvas Company. Lynn started Riveland’s Aircraft Interior’s in 1988 and is still active with the business. I had to retire in 2006 due to my health. I had worked at St. Francis for about 30 years.

Michael attended school in Breckenridge graduating in 1994. He married Shari Traver from Redfield, SD on January 4, 2003. She had 3 children prior to marrying Michael. They are Alyssa, Kristin and Bailey. Michael attended NDSCS and graduated in 2004 as an electrician. He worked for UNICO at Cargill in Wahpeton. Shari worked for the ethanol plant near Hankinson. They have two children, Jarrett Justin, August 27, 2003, and Josie Jane Rae, born May 31, 2006. He Graduated from NDSCS as an electrician. They now preside in Big Stone City where Michael works as an electrician at Ottertail Power Plant. Shari will be working at the Ottertail office in Milbank, SD.

Justin attended school in Breckenridge and graduated in 1999. He then attended NDSCS and graduated in 2000 with a welding certificate. He married in 2001 and from that union was blessed with two children Madyson Rae, born February 5, 2008 and Jackson Justin, born July 3, 2011. Following the dissolution of his marriage, Justin met Ashley Fliflet in May of 2015. They now reside in Wahpeton, along with Ashley’s children, Jackson and Colton. 

Deborah will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Lynn Riveland; son, Michael (Shari) Riveland, and their children, Alyssa (James) Lynaugh, Kristin (Lindsay) Evans, Bailey Traver, Jarrett Riveland, and Josie Riveland; son, Justin (Ashley Fliflet) Riveland, and children, Madyson Riveland, Jackson Riveland, Jackson Fliflet, and Colton Fliflet; great-grandchildren, Olivia Lynaugh, Bentley Lynaugh, Lincoln Lynaugh, William Lynaugh, Willow Lynaugh, Scarlett Evans, and Aurora Traver; mother, Joan Skog; brother, David (Lisa) Skog; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Riveland; father, Dwayne; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
