Charlotte Mae (Shuck) Bullis was born Nov 21, 1930, to Orville and Lottie (Lacey) Shuck on a farm near Wendell, MN. Her childhood years were spent on a couple of different farms in the rural Wendell area. Charlotte told many stories about growing up and going to country school. For many years she was the only student in her grade in the one-room, country school. Her family has always been so important to her even when she was young. We’ve always heard her talk about playing with her siblings Betty and especially Arlo outside, helping her mom take care of Darla when she was sick, and being there for Elva when she was a baby. When she was 12, she started school in Morris at the West Central School of Agriculture High School. She boarded there for her high school years, graduating in 1947.
Church was also a very important part of Charlotte's life from the beginning. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lawrence Presbyterian Church. She was involved in Sunday School, youth group and eventually married the love of her life, Donald Bullis, there on a very cold day, Feb 3, 1951. After a one-week honeymoon in Minneapolis with $100, they made their home on the farm in rural Tintah.
Charlotte was very busy on the farm doing all the things that made her happy: growing a garden, raising chickens, and most importantly taking care of her family. The first four of her five children were born while they lived on the farm: Alan Lee, Barbra (Barb) Lynn, Vickie Marie, and Randall (Randy) Don. In 1969, they moved into Tintah and she lived in that house until her death; something she was very proud of. 52 yrs in the same house is a long time. It was at this time that the 5th and final child was added, Lucinda (Cindy) Kay.
Charlotte had the ability to touch lives without ever trying to or realizing she had. Charlotte was active in the Tintah Congregational Church. She was a part of the Priscilla Circle and Ladies Aid. She was a Sunday School Teacher and the favorite lunch lady for Bible School. She used her musical talent being the organist for many years until the church closed in 2015. She actively attended the Doran Presbyterian Church.
She leaves her four remaining children: Barbra (Mark) Westman, Vickie Johnson, Randy (Barb) Bullis, and Lucinda (Josh) Hollen, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She leaves a brother Arlo (Donna) Shuck, sisters Darla (Don) Peterson, and Elva (Jim) Asmus.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald of almost 70 years on Aug. 23, 2020. Her son Alan Bullis and grandson Donnie Bullis. Her parents Orville and Lottie Shuck and sister Betty Teberg.
Pallbearers are Dallas Johnson, Ryan Bullis, Casey Dahl, Jordan Bullis, Jack Canterbury, Dominic Stanley. Honorary Pallbearers are grandchildren and great children.
