Charles Cox

Charles Roy Cox, Sr., 72, Wahpeton, ND died Sunday, July 11, 2010 at St. Francis Health Care Campus, Breckenridge, MN. The funeral will be Wednesday, July 14 at 10:30 am. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, with Father Terry Dodge officiating. Visitation is Tuesday, July13, from 4pm to 8pm with a prayer service at 7 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home. Interment is at Buffalo Lake Cemetery Eden, SD. Pallbearers are Daniel LaBelle, Jim Hasse, Jeremy Ward, Barry Ward, William Charles Cox, and Jason Kubela. Honorary Pallbearers are Lester Crawford, Jr., Gary Crawford, Francis Crawford, Lloyd Crawford, Emmette Eastman, Sr., Spencer Wanna, and all who called him friend.

Charles Roy Cox, Sr. eldest son of William and Luella (Jarvis) Cox was born on January 8, 1938 near Foxhome Township in M.N. He grew up and helped work on a farm near Doran and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Cora Mae Crawford on Dec. 17, 1962 in Wahpeton, ND where they lived and raised 4 children, 9 grandchildren & 4 great grand-children.

Charles spent 34 years as a Staff Sgt in the Army National Guard. He worked many jobs, sometimes 3 at a time. He ultimately retired from the Wahpeton Street Dept. He was a member of the VFW American Legion Post 20, Eagles Club, North American Hunting Club and Bass Member.

Charles was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping; and his greatest joy was having family around him. He was a wonderful story teller, and loved to visit. Charles also was known for collecting Coleman stoves and lanterns from anywhere he could find a good deal.

Survived by his sister Bernadine Lancaster of Breckenridge, M.N, his four children: Deborah Jean (Barry) Ward, Deidra Ann LaBelle (Jim Hasse), William Donald Cox, Charles Cox, Jr. (Brenda); all of Wahpeton. His grandchildren: Deanna LaBelle (Patrick Jones), William Charles Cox, Jeremy Ward (Jennifer Mohn), Daniel LaBelle, Edith LaBelle (Quentin Strong),            Brittany King, Courtney King, Alique Hasse and Darrell “DJ” King.       His great grandchildren: Mason Kohl, Jr., Caden Kohl, Cora Mae Ward, and Riley Patrick Jones. Several nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws

Preceded by his parents: William and Luella Cox, his wife: Cora Mae Cox, his sister: Bonnie Willprecht, his brothers Carl Cox and William & Bernard in infancy. His sister-in-law: Alice Cox. His brothers-in-law: Ralph Lancaster, Lloyd Willprecht, and Earl Crawford, and Donald Crawford. Cora Mae’s parents: Lester Crawford Sr. and Edith (Robertson) Crawford.
