Blain Oliphant

Blain Gilman Oliphant, 91 died May 4, 2010 at his home in Foxhome, MN. The funeral will be   Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11:00 am., United Methodist Church, Breckenridge, MN. Pastor Terry Tilton will be officiating. Visitation is Friday May 7 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Interment is at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fergus Falls, MN. Pallbearers are DuWayne Johnson, Eugene Moore, Werner Weinrich, Tom Hought, Pat Ward, Darrell Albertson and Weldon ‘Pug’Henderson.


Blain was born to Earl and Lulu (Nelson) Oliphant on October 7, 1918 in Andrea Township, Wilkin County, MN. Blain attended school at District 62 Country School near Foxhome.  He helped on the family farm until he went into the army in 1942. He served our country during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the 129th Infantry. He was stationed in the Philippines and Bougainville, until 1945 when he was honorably discharged with a purple-heart accommodation. After his discharge from the army, he returned back home to Foxhome and began his trucking career. On November 14, 1951 Blain married his long time sweetheart, Marie Johnson in Breckenridge, MN. The newlyweds moved to San Diego, CA living there for a short while before moving back to Foxhome, where they have resided since. Blain worked driving truck until his eyes failed in 2000.


Blain was passionate about horses and enjoyed riding. He often took part in Horseback Square Dancing. Blain was one of the founding members of the Red River Riders Saddle Club. He was also a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, VFW and the United Methodist Church.


Blain had many fond memories deer hunting in Montana with his son and grandsons. He also enjoyed going snowmobiling. He was a devoted husband, father and grandpa and great-grandpa and adored the time spent with his family.


Blain is survived by his wife Marie (Johnson) Oliphant; his son: Danny (Doreen) Oliphant, Foxhome, MN; his grandchildren Jeremie Oliphant (Jill Shelstad) and their children Austin, Cassandra, Marra and Sienna; Tanner (Alysha) Oliphant and their children Lawson and Danika;    Lyndsey (Tyler) Keenan and their baby due in July; Katelyn Chapman; and Megan Chapman.


Blain was preceded by his parents Earl and Lulu Oliphant; his brothers, Lawson Oliphant and Garland Oliphant; his sisters, Maudie Oliphant and Kathleen Nelson.
