Bette L. (Matz) Peters, age 93, of Fargo, formerly of Breckenridge, MN, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Elim Care Center in Fargo, ND, surrounded by family. Services will be held at a later date. Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, MN is entrusted with arrangements.

Bette Lou Peters was born on April 6, 1926, to Roland and Angeline (Osmundson) Matz, in Wolverton, MN. She grew up near Wolverton and attended a country school through 8th grade. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1943. Bette worked and lived in California for a couple of years, then moved back to Breckenridge.

Bette was united in marriage to Vernon Peters on March 14, 1947, at Christ Lutheran Church in Mitchell Township, near Wolverton. The couple made their home in Breckenridge while Vernon worked for the Great Northern Railway. They moved to Fargo in 1983, and Vernon retired in 1985. Bette and Vernon enjoyed summer vacationing at Otter Tail Lake, and they liked to attend railroad retirement gatherings together.  Vernon passed away on October 15, 2008.

Bette enjoyed watching soap operas and Lawrence Welk. She loved flowers, going shopping, reading, and looking at photos. She was always there for her family, and cherished spending time visiting with her friends and family, especially her grandkids. Bette was a very loving, caring, and humble lady; she will be greatly missed.

Bette is survived by:

Daughter, Shayla Hagen of Ashland, MT; Shayla’s children: Guy Hagen, and Paul (Merrilee) Stollenwerk; their children, Maria and Breylene, Breylene’s children, Willow and Devon.

Son, Steven (Nan) Peters, of Rochester, MN; their children: Justin (Karen) Peters, and children Eva and Henry; and Travis (Jen) Peters, and children Braeden, Azley, and Jace.

Daughter, Cindy Peters, of West Fargo, ND, and Cindy’s daughter, Jennifer Holt.

Bette was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Angeline; her husband, Vernon, 3 sisters: Treva Ujka, Doris Ballard, and an infant sister; 1 brother, Harold Matz; 1 sister-in-law, Margaret Brown; 1 great-grandchild, Shaylee Stollenwerk.
