Arlene Deal

Arlene Deal, 82, r ural Doran, MN, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Breckenridge , MN with Fr. Kenneth Popp as celebrant and Fr. Stan Wieser as concelebrant. Visitation will be on Monday, June 16, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge , MN . There will also be visitation on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery , Breckenridge , MN .

Arlene was born December 7, 1925 on the farm south of Breckenridge , MN , the daughter of Jacob and Lena (Olthoff) Jirak. She grew up on the farm and attended grade school in Doran, MN. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1943. Following high school, she began working at the First National Bank in Breckenridge.



On September 4, 1948 Arlene was joined in marriage to Edgar Deal at St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church in Foxhome , MN . They made their home and raised their children on their dairy farm at rural Doran.



Arlene was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge, and a former member of St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church in Foxhome. She enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, reading, working crossword puzzles, jig saw puzzles, playing the piano and organ, dancing, sewing, baking, listening to the radio and watching tv.



Arlene was upheld by her strong faith in God and her love for her family.

Arlene is survived by, her husband, Edgar Deal, Doran, MN; her nine children, Lynn Deal, Breckenridge, MN, Susan Bernier, Battle Lake, MN, Sandra Mess, Battle Lake, MN, Barbara (Bruce) Schaible, Fergus Falls, MN, Michael (Cindy) Deal, Doran, MN, Daniel (Ann) Deal, Breckenridge, MN, Thomas (Cindy) Deal, Doran, MN; James (Connie) Deal, Doran, MN, Jane (Mike) Hansen, Doran, MN; Her 28 grandchildren, Michelle, Eric, Ben, Chris, Luke, Sara, Shannon, Kristi, John, Jennifer, Jessica, Joel, Paul, Justin, Christine, Sally, Cari, Alicia, Jason, Katie, Jill, Brooke, Katie, Blake, Megan, Adam, and Andrew; her 25 great-grandchildren; her sister, Doris McDonald, Fargo, ND; her brother, James (Marlene) Jirak, Breckenridge, MN; several nieces and nephews.



Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Lena Jirak; her sister, Dalles Martens; her half-brother, Arthur Olthoff.
