Allen Albert Schreiber, 85, of Breckenridge, MN died on Monday, March 17, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, MN. The visitation will be Sunday, March 23, from 3:00 to 6:00PM with the prayer service at 5:30, at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge. The visitation will continue at the funeral home on Monday, March 24, from 9:30 to 10:15AM, followed by a 10:30AM, funeral at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge. Father Joseph Backowski will be the Celebrant. The interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Wahpeton, ND.
Allen "Al" Schreiber was born September 11, 1928, to Adolph and Anna (Pechacek) Schreiber in Breckenridge, MN. He attended grade school in Doran, MN, and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1946. Following high school, he worked on the family farm where he raised livestock and grew small grains. On October 15, 1952, Allen was united in marriage to Mary Frances Schmitt at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND. The couple lived on the family farm where they worked side by side raising their five children and maintaining their farm. Mary preceded him in death on April 2, 1998. Allen retired from farming in 2005. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Wahpeton for over 60 years. He also served as director for the Traverse Electric Cooperative, and as supervisor for Brandrup Township. In his spare time, Allen enjoyed playing cards, gardening tomatoes, and he was an avid fan of the MN Twins. He valued most the precious time spent with his family and friends.
Allen is survived by his children, Sandi Marohl of Battle Lake, MN, Michael Schreiber of Breckenridge, MN, Karen (Brian) Langseth of Breckenridge, MN, Kevin (Robin) Schreiber of Roscoe, IL, and Anna (John) Anderson of Wahpeton, ND; his seven grandchildren Kimberly Marohl, Trevor (Becky) Marohl, Travis Marohl, Amanda (fiancé Ryan Crouse) Langseth, John Langseth, Kasey Schreiber, and Kelsey Schreiber; and his great grandchildren Ella Marohl and Ben Marohl; two sister-in-law, Jeanette Schmitt of Sioux Falls, SD and Linda Schmitt of Detroit Lakes, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Allen is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances; his parents, Adolph and Anna; and his son-in-law, Doug Marohl; his brothers, Melvin and Cyril; his sister, Rita Politiski.
